In the studio

Exciting day today.. Part of my conservatory's requirements for graduation is having at least 25 hours spent interning.  So today I hoofed it to Brooklyn to help with the filming of reels for graduating students.

After getting on the wrong train TWICE I finally made it to the studio, bright and early.  After getting acquainted with the first AD (assistant director) I was put to work dressing and striking sets (ie setting up and taking down).

First off, the studio was amazing.  It was this huge sun-drenched loft in a quiet part of Brooklyn.  And it was filled with every imaginable prop and piece of furniture you could ever need to create any type of room.

Here's a peek at some of the setup:

All sorts of tools, furniture, a set of stairs, lamps and lighting.. Pretty much everything.

And because this was an internship with my school I was helping and working with my friends in the making of their reels, which was definitely an added bonus.

We quickly got the first set up and filming began right away:

The crew was amazing and ridiculously talented and creative.  I had such a blast helping them out and just watching them work together.

And of course watching my fellow actors perform their scenes was incredible.  After all, you know what they say: NYC is where you go when you need talent.  I'm not in the least bit surprised with how well everyone did.

Talented bunch, they are.

I took quite a few pics of my friends while they were performing too (which meant me sneaking behind curtains and crouching thru ladders so I wasn't seen), I thought it would be nice for them to have some actual photos of their experiences as keepsakes.

I would post some but actors get funny about things like that.

We're a weird bunch.

I have to say that one of the highlights was when our little buddy stopped in for a quick visit:

Apparently, goofball here is a stray that wandered in to check out what we were all doing.  He quickly became a star and I'm sure you'll be seeing his name in lights soon (whatever it may be).

Sadly, he disappeared just as quickly and before we could get anyone to come pick him up to see if he was chipped or not.  Hopefully he'll be back in the next couple days while filming continues.

After 6 scenes and 8 1/2 hours of interning, I was finished.  I honestly don't remember the last time I've been this worn out.  Crew work is HARD.  Don't let anyone tell you different.

Now, I'm off to a hot bath to soak my aching feet.

And CUT!

Shame on the bad blogger..

Wow.. I can NOT believe how long it has been since I last posted.  I'm thoroughly ashamed of myself.  I just got so busy with life and school and the boyfriend that time flew by.  And of course, the more time passed between postings the more overwhelmed I felt with updating.

It's a vicious cycle.

Let's see.. A quick overview.  B's birthday just passed a week ago.  He turned the big 2-8.  I keep teasing him about looking for nursing homes soon.  He doesn't think I'm very funny.

I hear elderly people sometimes lose their sense of humor tho, so I won't hold it against him.

I'm nearing graduation from my dramatic arts conservatory.. 3 more weeks and I'll be completely done with school.  Forever.  It's a scary thought, but I'm excited to be starting on a new chapter of my life.

I went into the recording studio to record a voice-over demo.  It consisted of 5 commercials that then got cut together to create a sample of vocal abilities.  This will then be used to send to VO agents if I should want to head that direction.  I admit that I really enjoy it and my VO instructor seemed to really think I had a talent for it.  Here's a couple shots of the studio:

Recording and mixing equipment.

Inside the studio.
That was a really fun experience.

I also got my headshots taken last month by an up-and-coming photographer (Wildfyre Photography) that really did an amazing job.  Here are a couple of my favorites:

The only problem is that a couple weeks ago I woke up, couldn't do a thing with my hair so I walked down to 23rd and 3rd to Dramatics and had my hair all chopped off.  Now I have to redo ALL of my headshots since my new hairstyle makes my current ones unusable.

Here's a pic so you can kind of see what my hair looks like now:

It's a bit hard to see but you can tell how much shorter it is now.  I have gotten so many compliments from people that it makes my head spin.  I ended up going about 4 inches shorter than I planned so I didn't know if I liked it or not but everyone I know has been so vocal about my new hair and how much they like it.  So a big thank you to all of my friends for their amazingly kind words!

Hm.. Oh yes!  B had been kind of down the past 2 months about not really finding a pro (football) team out here that he liked.  But his manager contacted him about an arena team so he went and met with the coaches.  They really liked him, set up a couple try-outs with him and now we're waiting on the third try-out and their decision.  I'm so proud of him and he's been super excited about the whole thing.  That's definitely been some good news for B.  :)

Also, today I went to Smile in the City which is an amazing cosmetic dentistry practice here in Manhattan.  I'm going to be getting Lumineers to straighten my smile.  My smile is actually pretty decent, I just have one tooth that is slightly turned inward which tends to look odd when I smile.  Also, the two teeth on either side of my front two are shorter than the front (you can see what I mean in the pic above), they'll be lengthened and my canines will be slightly rounded out so they're not as pointy.

I couldn't be more EXCITED.  I go in on May 9th, it'll take about 45 mins and then i'll have a brand new smile!  Generally I probably wouldn't have bothered if I wasn't on camera.  Everything on film is magnified and it drives me nuts.  And makes me a little self conscience.

Which I hate.

So that's pretty much everything that's been happening.  Other than filming my reel and submitting myself for auditions.  But that's only been within this past week so there's been no news on any of those things.  But you can bet I'll be blogging about it when something does happen.

Also, if you've made it thru this whole post you deserve a friggin' cookie.

So, this is for you!
